I was very pleased to see Voeckler pick up the mountains jersey and, of course, really delighted to see Mr Twiglet and Froome-dog going one and two. I can't wait to see them go head-to-head at some point. Our fantasy league ended up being an all-family affair, with Robbie leading until the final time trial ... It was the gig that convinced me to change to Conversation 16 - a real stand out track live.

Softpack were discovered during our trip to Australia last year - came on Triple J when we were driving to Byron Bay.

I've found Darkstar quite hard to get into - I needed to listen to whole album all the way through and almost zone out from it. Weirdly it reminds me of Pink Floyd, but I suspect that's only me. Phosphorescent were easier to get into - I do like a bit of Americana. Didn't see the whole set at the National gig - I wanted another beer in the Arches on the way and had been put off by a Neil Young comparison - but when I walked halfway through the set in I realised missing it was a mistake (and not only because it turned out that the Carling Academy sold pints of staropramen).

Went through a bit of an electronica and dance music revival this year - primarily on blog sites - Salacious Sound being a particular favourite.

And yup, the fabulous bike book has arrived. I've been doing about 10 pages after dinner every night as a treat. Haven't let David see it yet though! Has the joint present for you and David arrived yet?

I am going to take a guess at Conversation 16 as The National track that made it on to your mix-tape. (I was afraid I'd eat your brains ...) At the concert they dedicated the song before to the victims of the Tucson shooting and so to introducing Conversation 16 he said - time to lighten up: this next song is about cannibalism, but in a nice way ...

What's the other band that we had in common? I am going to go for The Soft Pack. What do you think of Phosphorescent and Darkstar?

I tried to order you a copy of the Malcolm Middleton double CD, but his ecommerce wouldn't let you send the CD to a different address to the billing one. Or at least I couldn't figure out how to do it. I used Karen's PayPal account to get ours, so sadly the card was addressed to Karen only ... I almost bought 10 copies to hand out as gifts to all my work colleagues. Well it would make a change from the usual Lindt Reindeer or bottle of wine!

I was bit embarrassed to put a Stornoway song on their. On paper they should be about my most hated band in the world, but all three tracks of theirs that I have are great and I may even succumb and buy their album. Nobody has called me out on it yet ...

The Rural Alberta Advantage's album is great and they have a new one due out in March. We had it on in the car all the time when we were away camping.

Looking forward to hearing your selection!geographyofhopehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13185840335356827843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5612942654363998024.post-79528522873472304902011-01-18T06:30:19.455+11:002011-01-18T06:30:19.455+11:00Great mix tape this year. I liked everything and ...Great mix tape this year. I liked everything and having driven down from Balquhidder to Edinburgh with it on the car stereo today thought it flowed really well. I also discovered Soft Pack, Phosphorescent and Darkstar this year. But apart from those, and The National & British Sea Power, the artists are new to my collection. Surprisingly the one artist I had heard of and thought about buying is the track that appealed least - Laura Marling.

I think my favourite is Metric, but also plan to follow up and download Rose Elinor Dougall, Bettie Serveert, Three Mile Pilot and Rural Alberta Advantage. And maybe some of the others too once I’ve listened more. I’ve got a 2010 playlist for you but when I went to burn it I found I’d no CDs left (bridge club got them all on a pop-based version of 2010 – yes, I think having more than 1 version of the 2010 mixtape probably is cheating, but who’s counting?). So once I manage to buy some more CDs I will send…

However, I can reveal now that we have no identical songs this year, but do have 2 artists in common. I had 3 different songs picked out from High Violet, including Bloodbuzz & Anyone’s Ghost, but eventually picked another. Can you guess which?

And thanks for letting me know about the Malcolm Middleton double CD – its brilliant, I love both, and I did get a card signed by the man himself.Katyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12607040616938180464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5612942654363998024.post-15157656231615326092010-12-19T10:54:36.192+11:002010-12-19T10:54:36.192+11:00To my shame, I have never really listened to any N...To my shame, I have never really listened to any Nick Drake.
